This site belongs to Jason and is about dog behaviour. If you have a question about your data, you can mail contact@readingyourdog.com.
What happens when you visit
The site runs at mijn.host in the Netherlands. Like every web server, it keeps a log of what gets requested: your IP address, which page you asked for, the time, and what browser you use.
That is technically necessary to deliver the site and to spot faults and abuse. I do not use those logs to track you and I do not link them to anything else.
Cookies
At the moment there are no analytics and no advertisements on this site. So no cookies are placed to track you or to tailor advertising to you.
There are two things that stay in your own browser:
- A cookie that remembers which language you read the site in, so you do not have to choose every time.
- If you fill in the daily schedule for a puppy, those times are stored in your own browser so they are still there when you come back. They are not sent anywhere. Clear your browser data and they are gone.
Neither needs consent, because they only do what you ask the site to do.
If analytics or advertising are added later, you will be asked to make a choice first and only then will those cookies be placed. This statement will be updated then.
If you send a question
On the contact page you can leave a question about what you are stuck on with your dog. That question is stored in a database at Supabase.
What gets stored: the question as you typed it, the language you were reading the site in, the time, and whether the search found anything at that moment. I use that last one to see which subjects have nothing about them on the site yet.
Why: to decide what I write about. Your question may become an explanation on this site.
I do not ask for your name and I do not need it. If you put your name or other personal details into the text of your question yourself, those do end up in that database. Keep that in mind.
If you leave your email address
With your question you can voluntarily fill in your email address to get a message once there is an explanation about your subject online. That is a choice: leave the box empty and I store no address.
If you do fill it in, I store your address, the moment you gave that consent, and whether the mail has been sent. I use it for that one message and nothing else. That email contains a link to unsubscribe immediately, and your address is then deleted.
If you sign up for the newsletter
If you sign up, I store your email address, the moment you signed up, and which language you were reading the site in. I use that only to send you the newsletter.
Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it and your address is removed from the list.
Who else processes your data
I do not sell your data and I do not pass it on for advertising. There are parties that provide the technology this site runs on:
- mijn.host provides the hosting and with it the server logs.
- Supabase provides the database that holds the questions and the sign-ups.
- Once the newsletter is actually being sent, a mail provider will be added. It will be named here before anything is sent.
How long I keep it
Server logs are kept briefly, as is usual with hosting, and are then cleared automatically.
Questions I keep for as long as they are useful for deciding what to write about. Email addresses I keep until you unsubscribe or until the message you signed up for has been sent.
What you can ask for
You can always ask which data I hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. Mail contact@readingyourdog.com and I will sort it out.
If you disagree with something and we cannot resolve it together, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the supervisory body for this site.

If anything changes about what I keep or why, I will update this statement. The date it was last updated is at the top.
